Volunteer Job Description

 

Position Title: Comprehensive Refugee Clerk

 

Program: Catholic Charities – Comprehensive Refugee Program

 

Responsibilities for Volunteers include but are not limited to:

 

·       Assist with the walk-in process for clients as they come in.

·       Answer calls and return client phone calls. 

·       Providing information/resources to clients/participants by telephone, in written form, e-mail, or in person

·       Help our Comprehensive Refugee Ministry by carrying out clerical tasks such as filing, data entry on the computer, and organizing/labeling files.

·       Participate in outreach activities as needed.

·       Accurately document client information.

·       Scan and file accordingly.

·       Providing information to supervisors and co-workers by telephone, in written form, by e-mail, or in person.

·       Contact the caseworker/Director to share information about the client’s inquiries/progress, or in case of any questions or concerns, contact the caseworker/Director.

·       Record hours on Get Connected (volunteer website) at the end of each month or report hours to the Case Manager or Director.

·       Comply with established standards of ethics and confidentiality.

 

Qualifications:

 

·       Preferred language (Spanish, English, Creole)

·       High School Diploma preferred. Customer service, administrative, or social work experience is a plus.

·       Willingness to interact with people from different cultures.

·       Needs to be able to work with people with limited English ability patiently.

·       Will need to be fingerprinted and have a security clearance completed.

·       Must be 18 or older.

·       Ability to solve and deal effectively with a variety of situations.

·       Ability to communicate respectfully with employees, clients, and community members.

·       Ability to work with culturally diverse staff and clients.

·       Must be self-motivated to do tasks as needed.

 

Training:

Before meeting with the clients, attend a brief orientation at the Catholic Charities office and meet with or talk to the program coordinator.

 

Scheduling:

This should be decided in consultation with the case manager or program director, as it is flexible. Calling times will generally be from 9 am to late afternoon. Volunteers should be committed to participating for at least 4 hours a week, with a minimum of two consecutive hours.
