Volunteer Job Description
Position Title: ESL Volunteer Teacher
Program: Catholic Charities Comprehensive Refugee Program
Responsibilities:
. Substitute teachers perform the instructional and classroom management processes for teachers who are absent for a day or more extended periods.
. Commit to visiting the classroom at least once before starting volunteering and contact the Program Manager for the first visit. ·
. Take attendance, do a lesson plan, and explain the homework.
. Candidates need to be flexible in their availability.
. Academic support
. Assist in improving computer literacy if needed.
. Record hours on Get Connected (volunteer website). Always sign in and sign out.
. Arrive at least 15 minutes before the class starts.
. Contact the Program Manager to share information in case of any questions or concerns.
Qualifications:
. Have a bachelor’s degree in education.
. Certification in TESOl.
. A willingness to interact with youth from diverse cultures.
. Needs to be able to work patiently with adults with limited English ability.
. Need fingerprinted with Catholic Charities of Central Florida and the Department of Children and Families.
Training:
. Before volunteering, the teacher must attend a brief orientation at the Catholic Charities office and meet or talk with the program manager. Teachers must complete a Certification with CASAS.
Scheduling:
. This is a programmed schedule, and depending on the location, we will send messages when the opportunities are available. Volunteers should inform the Program Manager when you decide to stop volunteering.
